CELEBRATE WORLD CLEAN UP DAY!
JOIN THE TOWN OF LAKE COWICHAN
“STREET TO STREAM LITTER PICK-UP”
Come to a designated litter pick-up station between 11:00 and 12:30 on Sunday September 14th to get supplies to pick-up litter from the streets and parks of the Town of Lake Cowichan and enter to win some great draw prizes!
Pick-up stations will be located at:
-
Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce Office
-
Central Park
-
Kinsmen Duck Pond
-
Ts-uu-baa-asatx Square
-
Baseball Diamond Kiosk on Point Ideal Road
-
Kate’s Park
Pick-up in your own or another neighbourhood. No need to pre-register.
Plan to join in as an individual, a family, a neighbourhood or work or other group. Make it a friendly competition if you’d like.
Bring your gathered litter back to the pick-up station before 1:00, then come celebrate at Saywell Park with:
-
fun and games, with prizes for the kids
-
cookies and other goodies
-
draw prizes - all generously provided by local businesses
-
the Lake Cowichan Kracken Junior A hockey members demonstrating their shooting skills, and
-
the Lake Ambassadors’ fun face painting.
Why join in? Because litter doesn’t just disappear – especially plastic litter – it breaks down into finer and finer particles. When the plastic pieces get small enough they get into the organs and tissues of fish, animals and humans – causing serious health issues!
Picking-up paper and plastic litter – bottle caps, plastic candy wrappers, zip ties and plastic bottles from our streets and parks stops it from washing into storm sewers and natural streams and ending up in our beautiful Cowichan Lake and River. This means a healthier environment.
