Even if you never attend a meeting, or do not live in the Lake Cowichan region, all citizens of our province need to be aware of the issues and concerns facing the Quw’utsun Watershed.
“The Cowichan River (Quw’utsun Sta’lo’) is tied with the Fraser River for the distinction of being the most endangered river in B.C., according to the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC.
The ORCBC, which advocates for recreational access to land and water on behalf of more than 100 non-profit clubs and associations in B.C., released its list of what it considers the most endangered rivers in the province in 2026 on Jan. 7 in an effort to raise awareness about clean water and free-flowing rivers.
The council said climate change is the biggest threat to the Cowichan River, which flows from Lake Cowichan through the Cowichan Valley before emptying into the Salish Sea near Duncan.”
