October 4, 2026
(Sunday)
Let’s Celebrate World Clean-up Day and BC Rivers Day and Keep Cowichan Lake and River Clean!
Pick-up stations will be located at:
-
All N All Tire
-
Central Park
-
The Duck Pond
-
Ts’uu-baa-asatx Square
-
Kate’s Park
-
Saywell Park
What: Join friends, neighbours and community members and pick-up litter from Lake Cowichan’s streets and parks to keep it out of our beautiful lake and river.
Why: Litter, especially micro-plastics, has serious harmful effects on fish and other aquatic species, and on those other species that depend on them for food, including humans. Click here for more information about the harms from micro-plastics, and here for a fun colouring page about micro-plastics.
When: Sunday, October 4, 2026
Where: Pick-up stations will be located throughout Town, between 11:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m., to distribute supplies and collect the litter. You can choose to come to any pick-up station or you can even choose to simply pick-up litter in your own neighbourhood. Click here for the list of the pick-up stations.
Who: After the litter is collected, come to Saywell Park for a family-friendly celebration, with face painting, kite-making, fishpond with prizes, and other fun and games with CLRSS members, and other community volunteers, including the Lake Ambassadors.
How: You don’t need to register in advance, just come to one of the listed pick-up stations. Once collected, the litter will be taken care of by the event volunteers. We will have a limited amount of reusable gloves, buckets, and bags for volunteers to use on a first come, first served basis. We encourage you to bring your own if you have some!
Our partners and supporters: Town of Lake Cowichan, Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce, Mid-Island Co-op, Kaatza Museum, Tim Hortons, Surfriders South Vancouver Island, Lake Cowichan School
