Workshop on How to Control an Infestation
CLRSS is conducting a pilot project in the spring of 2026 using a benthic barrier strategy (see link below) to manage yellow flag iris infestation(s) in CVRD Area I, Youbou/Meade Creek. In this process YFI infestations are cut to the ground and tarped with PCV matting for up to one year. Smothering the rhizomes with benthic barriers induces anaerobic
respiration which kills the plants.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Catherine Tarasoff of AgroWest Consulting Scientists, who has researched and piloted this method in BC, is able to provide this workshop for CLRSS members and volunteers. If successful, work could be undertaken on other sites.
We are looking for 15 volunteers who would attend this spring workshop and be willing to help others in the future. If interested in further information or to indicate interest in attending the workshop, contact: CLRSS Board member, Jean Atkinson (jean.atkinson2024@outlook.com).
TNIPMC has a YouTube playlist with more information.
